Victor Mendes has been the owner of Vienna Vintner, a boutique wine shop in Vienna, Virginia, since purchasing the business in September 1998. For over 27 years, he has built a reputation as a trusted wine expert known for his approachable style, deep knowledge, and passion for connecting people with the perfect bottle.
Over the years, Victor has traveled extensively through some of the world’s most renowned wine regions, including Portugal, Napa Valley, Rioja, South Africa, Burgundy, Bordeaux and Oregon, where he participated in the prestigious Oregon Pinot Camp,an immersive program designed for top wine professionals.
At Vienna Vintner, Victor has carved out a unique niche, focusing on small-production domestic wines that often rival more widely recognized labels at higher price points, alongside distinctive selections from around the globe. He has cultivated strong relationships with over 35 wine distributors, allowing him to consistently source exceptional and hard-to-find wines for his customers.
Known throughout the community for his intuitive palate and genuine customer service, Victor is also deeply involved in local fundraising efforts, partnering with schools and organizations to give back through wine-focused events.
In 2016, Victor launched his own wine labels, VIX produced in Paso Robles, California. Today, his portfolio includes seven varietals with an annual production of approximately 700 cases, further showcasing his commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
KYLE ARMSTRONG
MANAGER
Kyle brings a deep passion for wine and hospitality, developed through years of experience in restaurants throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., where he cultivated a strong appreciation for wine and spirits—especially in the context of food and pairing.
He joined the Vienna Vintner team in 2018 after spending eight years with Whole Foods Market, where he began as a wine buyer and rose to the role of Specialty Team Leader. His extensive background in both retail and service gives him a well-rounded and intuitive approach to helping customers find the perfect bottle.
Kyle has dedicated years to the study of wine and holds several respected certifications. He is a Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers, has achieved the Advanced Level certification with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), and is also a French Wine Scholar through the FWS Guild.
Beyond his impressive credentials, Kyle is known for his genuine kindness, approachable nature, and thoughtful wine recommendations for any occasion. He regularly tastes side-by-side with Victor, helping curate selections for the shop, and knows the Vienna Vintner inventory like the back of his hand—making him an invaluable resource for both our team and our customers.
MARY MINKLER
PART-TIME-SOME-TIME MANAGER
Mary joined the Vienna Vintner team in 2018, shortly after our move to the new shop, initially as a part-time helper. Over the years, she has become an integral part of our operation and now leads our event team with incredible attention to detail and care.
Mary works closely with clients to coordinate catering and plan special events, ensuring every gathering at the Stonehouse is seamless and memorable. She also brings a creative touch to every occasion, designing all of our in-house floral arrangements.
A true sparkling wine enthusiast, Mary is always eager to share her favorites and guide guests toward the perfect bottle of bubbles.Mary is the glue that keeps everything and everyone running smoothly.
